Art-Oliver Simon

Art-Oliver Simon wurde am 13. Dezember 1966 in Hamburg geboren. Er machte 1993 seinen Abschluß in den Fächern Komposition, Dirigieren und Klavier in den Klassen von F.M. Beyer und Witold Szalonek. Im gleichen Jahr erhielt er den Komponstenptreis der Stadt Berlin und 1994 den Boris Blacher Kompositionspreis. 2007 erhielt er eine Arbeitsstipendium am Herrenhaus Edenkoben und 2009 ein Arbeitsstipendium der Stiftung kunstraum sylt:quelle.

Von 1993 bis 1995 lebte er in Paris und besuchte dort am IRCAM Institut für Musik und Akustik den cursus annuel de composition. Seit 1998 lebt er ständig in Berlin-Prenzlauer Berg und organisiert Konzerte, tritt als Musiker, Dirigent verschiedener Ensembles oder auch als Liveperformer in Erscheinung.

Zahlreiche Werke wurden bei größeren internationalen Festivals uraufgeführt, so z.B. in Forbach (rendez vous musique nouvelle 2002), Usedom (Musikfestival 2004) Stuttgart (2010), Berlin (Herbstmusik 2005, 2006) St.Petersburg (SOUNDWAYS 2009) und Stettin (2009). Er produzierte auch in eigenen Stücken und Improvisationen Musik für Kinder (Buch und CD Lauschen und Lesen 2008)

Art-Oliver Simon, pianist and composer, was born on December 13th in the year 1966 at Hamburg. He graduated from composition classes of Frank Michael Beyer and Witold Szalonek at the Hochschule der Künste Berlin (changed into University of Arts). In the year 1993 he received the Kompositionspreis der Stadt Berlin (award for composition of the City of Berlin) and 1994 the Boris Blacher Award for composition.

From the year 1993 till 1995 he pursued his studies and worked at IRCAM (Institut de Recherche et Coordination Acoustique/musique at the Centre Pompidou) a research institute for modern music at the Centre Pompidou, Paris. Since 1998 Art Oliver Simon is living at Berlin-Penzlauer Berg. He was active in organizing programs for contemporary music as well at Berlin as well in the region Brandenburg. Jointly with the composer Ernst Helmuth Flammer and Hermann Keller he was initiating a network for contemporary music which was engaged for new and young composers especially those who due to their mode and style of composing were permanently neglected by the main stream of officially promoted new music.

Several of his works were perfomed for the first time 2002 at Forsbach (rendez vous musique nouvelle) 2004 at the Music festival at Usesdom, at Mannheim, Tübingen, Stuttgart, Munique and Berlin, also in the framework of international festivals at St. Petersburg and Stettin. He created also music for children which is recorded in a CD for a book Lauschen und Lesen for the education of listening for children in preschool and kindergarten.
