Ivan Kanič

Geboren 1951 in Ljubljana, Slovenia. Besuch der Grundschule und Oberschule in Maribor. Studium der Linguistik (Französisch und Englisch) mit dem B.A.-Abschluss.

Seit 1979 als Bibliothekar tätig, zuerst in der Zentralbibliothek der Wirtschaftswissenschaften der Universität in Ljubljana. Leiter der Bibliothek und Gründer des European Documentation Centre. Interessen gelten vor allem der bibliothekarischen Automatisierung, Informationsarbeit und bibliothekarischen Terminologie. In den Jahren 1992 und 2004 Arbeit in der National- and Universitätsbibliothek als Berater, Leiter des Research & Development Centre, Interimsdirektor der Bibliothek und Leiter des Information- and Referral Centre. Im Jahre 2004 Rückkehr zur Zentralbibliothek der Wirtschaftwissenshaften als Leiter. Über 10 Jahre Hochschullehrer der Informationstechnologie und bibliothekarischen Automatisierung im Department of LIS, Fakultät der Geisteswissenschaften an der Universität von Ljubljana. Sein Hauptinteresse gilt der bibliothekarischen Terminologie. Seit 1978 ist Kanič ein aktives Mitglied der Commission on Library Terminology, die er mitbegründete.

Er arbeitete viele Jahre am slovenischen Wörterbuch der bibliothekarischen Terminologie und wurde Initiator und Manager des Multilingual Dictionary of Library Terminology in 16 Sprachen. Beide Wörterbücher sind zugänglich als Druck und in elektronischer Form. Zur Zeit Herausgeber von zwei Blogs in slovenischer Sprache – Biblioblog und Bibliotekarska terminologija.

Born in 1951 in Ljubljana, Slovenia. Attended the elementary school in Maribor and graduated there from the secondary school, study of linguistics (French and English) for the B.A. at the Faculty of Arts, University of Ljubljana.

Since 1979 engaged in librarianship, working first as a documentalist at the Central Economic Library within the Faculty of Economics, University of Ljubljana. Head of the Library, and founder and Head of the European Documentation Centre. Fields of interest and activity were above all library automation, information work and library terminology. In the period 1992 to 2004 working in the National and University Library as a consultant, Head of Research & Development Centre, interim Director of the Library and Head of the Information and Referral Centre. In 2004 return to the Central Economic Library with the position of the Head Librarian. Lecturer of Information technology and Library automation for ten years at the Department of LIS, Faculty of Arts, University of Ljubljana. Library terminology is his topmost interest, since 1978 an active member of the Commission on Library Terminology which he was serving as well as a cofounder.

Working for many years at the Slovenian Dictionaries for Library Terminology and initiator and manager of the Multilinual Dictionary of Library Terminology in 16 languages. Both dictionaries available in printed and electronic form. Editor of two blogs in Slovene language (but with a Google Translate widget) Biblioblog and Bibliotekarska terminologija.
